Hanoi Airport to Your Hotel: Grab Without the Hassle

Grab from Noi Bai, the easy way

Landing in Hanoi: from the airport to your hotel

Arriving in Hanoi can be a little stressful. The moment you walk out of the baggage hall, lots of people will offer you a taxi or a "Grab" to your hotel, often holding up a phone with a screenshot of the Grab app. The short version: smile, say no thanks, keep walking right to car park P1, and order a Grab in the app yourself.

What's wrong with the drivers in the arrivals hall?

Honestly? Maybe it's a scam and maybe it isn't. The problem is that the ride isn't booked through the app, so the price isn't fixed in advance. Some drivers take advantage of that and raise the price in the middle of the ride. It's not the end of the world, but if you'd rather skip the surprises and get a fixed, upfront price, order the Grab in the app yourself.

Where to wait for your Grab

From Terminal 2 (international flights) to P1

  1. 1Walk outside the terminal. You will see a row of numbered pillars.
  2. 2Turn right and keep going right. The whole idea is to walk as far right as you can.
  3. 3Pass pillar 20. Right after it a walkway starts, the one you will see lots of people with suitcases on. Follow it.
  4. 4Keep going until you see the P1 car park sign, then cross the road to the car park.
  5. 5Order a Grab in the app and set your pickup point to P1 (you will need mobile data on your phone).

This is the sign you're looking for. Car park P1, just past the walkway from pillar 20.

Our ride to the hotel took about 40 minutes and cost only about $8. We also checked Xanh SM, the green electric taxi app, in case it was cheaper, but at that moment there was no real difference in price.

We started with what matters most: the weather. Itineraries, hotels and getting around are coming soon. Stay tuned!
